The Bionas® analyzing systems detect physiological parameters of living cells and tissue slices in a label-free and non-invasive assay. Cells are placed on a sensor chip and supplied with medium in a perfusion system. The multi-parametric sensor chip continuously measures:·
- the oxygen consumption
- the extracellular acidification
Both parameters determine the acute rates of the cellular energy metabolism
- the cell impedance
detects alterations in the cellular adhesion/confluence and morphology
The perfusion system supplies the cells with nutrients. Moreover, it guarantees highly defined cell environmental conditions throughout the whole experiment. This implements a close to in vivo approach.
Long-term studies and regeneration
The perfusion system allows for parameter recordings over several days and makes it possible for the first time:
- to monitor cellular responses to drug exposure in long-term studies
- to estimate recovery afterwards for the same cell population
- to collect information on adaptation effects after repeated drug exposure
By generating profiles of bioenergetics and cell morphology, the Bionas® analyzing system allows the monitoring of:
- action of substances and their cytotoxic effects including potential regeneration >> Toxicology
- drug resistance of cancer cell lines and tumour slices >> Oncology
- cellular responses to exposure of new compounds in long-term studies >> Drug discovery
- purity of water and other quality indicators >> Water Quality
- standardization and optimization of cell culture procedures >> Quality Management
- the influence of deprived oxygen supply to cells >> Hypoxia
- of stem cells (e.g. differentiation) and their regenerative capacity >> Stem Cells / Regenerative Medicine
